Halloween passed and there was no deal by the Indianapolis Colts on the NFL deal Deadline. On Halloween, they managed to leave with two players, though. They added Jack Anderson from their practice squad to the 53-man roster, it was revealed Tuesday morning. Ike Boettger, an offensive lineman, filled the void left by his departure on the practice squad, according to the Colts’ official website. I know Boettger well from Indianapolis. This season, the former Buffalo Bills player was a member of the Colts and participated in two games.
He’s not just your average practice squad player who hasn’t played much in the NFL yet. He is a six-year NFL veteran who saw 17 starts with the Buffalo Bills in 2020 and 2021. Boettger, who stands 6’6 and weighs 315 pounds, covers at guard and center for the backup squad.
From the Indianapolis Colts announcement, more information about Boettger: Boettger, 6-6 and 313 pounds, was added to the Indianapolis practice squad on September 12, 2023, and has since spent time on the team’s active roster and practice squad. Throughout his tenure with the Colts (2023), Buffalo Bills (2018–23), and Kansas City Chiefs (2018), he has made 36 appearances in 36 games (17 starts). Boettger has also made three starts in postseason games. On May 11, 2018, the Bills signed him out of Iowa as an undrafted free agent. Pronounce his last name as BUTT-gur.
In other news, the Colts said on Monday that they had released defensive tackle Ross Blalock and added safety Tyreque Jones to the practice squad. This year, Jones was an undrafted rookie free agent from NC State. He was 6’2 and 195 pounds, with a 4.52 forty-yard sprint time, and was invited to the NFL Combine.
