Following an alleged incident involving two 19-year-old ladies on Sunday morning, two football players at the University of Tennessee are being investigated for rape and sexual assault.
According to WBIR 10News, linebacker A.J. Johnson and defensive back Michael Williams have not been charged but have been listed as suspects in the case, with Knoxville police reporting the alleged incident occurred just before 3 a.m. Sunday. One of the accusers, a Tennessee student, said she was raped by two other students, while the other victim was a friend visiting from Florida who claimed she was sexually attacked but did not press charges
During Monday’s press conference, coach Butch Jones stated that he was uninformed of the event, but the school later confirmed that the players had been suspended while the inquiry is ongoing.
“Right now, in the process of gathering all information,” Jones added. “Once we have all that appropriate information we will act in a very decisive matter which we have proven over time to do here at the University of Tennessee.”
Johnson, a senior linebacker, had previously been jailed for purchasing alcohol for people under the age of 21 and resisting police. The charges were eventually withdrawn.
