Louisville football continues to climb the rankings as it approaches the first ACC championship game.
The ACC’s only ranked teams are Louisville, Florida State, and North Carolina.
The University of Louisville is ranked 11th in the current US LBM coaches poll and AP Top 25 announced on Sunday. FSU is ranked fourth in both major polls, while UNC is ranked twenty-third in the coaches poll and twenty-fourth in the Associated Press poll.
Louisville is ranked No. 10 in the coaches poll and No. 25 in the AP Top 25 for the first time since a 62-28 win over Syracuse on Sept. 11, 2016.
U of L is also rising in ESPN’s Football Power Index rankings, rising to No. 18 with the nation’s 12th best record. The team’s remaining schedule, which includes Virginia, Miami, and Kentucky, is ranked 21st, with a 10.2% chance of winning out.
In the FPI rankings, FSU is the only ACC team ahead of Louisville. It is ranked seventh in the country, with the third best record. Its remaining strength of schedule — Miami, North Alabama, and Florida — ranks 44th, trailing the Cardinals.
The Seminoles and Cardinals are the top two teams in the ACC rankings and will most likely meet in the league championship game on December 2. Florida State already has a berth after defeating Pitt 24-7 on Saturday. The Seminoles have a 75% chance of winning the conference, while the Cardinals have a 23.3% chance of winning the league, according to the FPI.
If the University of Louisiana wins its next two league games, it will be guaranteed a position in the ACC championship game. However, if the Cardinals beat Virginia, performances from other conference opponents could help them secure their berth this week.
Louisville, which has yet to lose at home this season, plays the Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
In the first College Football Playoff rankings, the Cardinals were ranked 13th. On Tuesday, the second CFP poll will be announced.
