Geelong Cat have received a detrimental news about a player

emotional tribute to Geelong Cats great Vic Fuller was led by club captain Joel Selwood a day after the Cats legend died under tragic circumstances on Monday.

Selwood led the tribute to Fuller, 79, at the Cats’ training ground at Kardinia Park on Tuesday before the team contunied pre-season training.

Fuller was a long-time club staffer who had worked for Geelong for nearly 50 years.

He collapsed on the field during Monday’s training session and was unable to be revived.

Prior to the Cats’ return to the training track on Tuesday morning, Selwood gathered the players together for a short tribute to the beloved club icon.

“Guys, I just thought it was important that we all come together this morning,” Selwood said.

“Yesterday was very tough for a lot of people. He touched people in many different ways.

“He’ll live on in this footy club. He didn’t want things to be about him until it was about him, and he’ll be laughing all the way to heaven.”

Geelong chief executive Brian Cook said on Tuesday evening that players and other club staff were being provided with counselling after the sad incident.

Cook also said Fuller was given immediate medical attention at the time of his collapse.

“He collapsed right out front [of] the race. He had medical attention within 30 seconds. A defibrillator on him within a minute,” Cook said.

“It’s been a really challenging day for a lot of people, especially the senior players and the football staff who’ve worked with him for a long, long time, because Vic’s been around for 50 years.
