SAD NEWS: The quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks has died.

Alex Collins, a former Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens running back, died on Sunday night, the teams confirmed on Monday.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Alex Collins this morning,” the Seahawks said in a statement. “Alex was adored by his family and friends, as well as fans from all over the world.” Everyone who knows him personally can vouch to his passion, determination, and larger-than-life demeanor.

Collins died in a motorbike accident near Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, on Sunday night, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. According to officials, an SUV began turning left and, as it crossed the eastbound lanes, Collins’ motorcycle collided with the rear passenger side of the SUV.

Collins was declared deceased on the scene. The crash is being investigated.

“The Seahawks family and the 12s are devastated to learn of Alex’s passing,” said Seahawks general manager John Schneider in a statement. “Alex’s contagious smile and classic river dance moves will be missed forever.” Alex could brighten up a room and was adored by everyone in our complex. He lived life to the fullest and attacked it on the football field. He was one of the SEC’s most productive runners.”

Collins was taken by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft after a strong career at Arkansas. In his final season with the Razorbacks, the Fort Lauderdale, Florida native rushed for 1,577 yards and 20 touchdowns, marking his third straight season with at least 1,000 yards.

Collins subsequently spent one season with the Seahawks before being released and ending up in Baltimore the following year.

Collins played for the Ravens for two seasons and had a career-high 973 running yards in 2017. He received continuous playing time with the squad and concluded the 2018 season with nearly 1,400 running yards and 13 touchdowns.

He returned to Seattle for a brief while in 2020 and 2021 to conclude his NFL career. He rushed for 1,997 yards and scored 19 touchdowns in the league.

Collins most recently appeared in the USFL with the Memphis Showboats earlier this spring. His season was cut short by injury, and he was placed on injured reserve in May.

“Alex was a pleasure to work with.”
