Sad Report: New Orleans Saints’ key player decides to quit playing owing to a catastrophic injury

New Orleans Saints’ key player decides to quit playing owing to a catastrophic injury.

Derek Carr, quarterback of the New Orleans Saints, suffered a shoulder injury during Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Carr was sent to a local hospital for extra tests, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, which found that he avoided “a more serious injury than originally expected.” According to Rapoport, Carr “could still miss some time, but this does not appear to be a season-ending scenario.”

Carr is “believed to have suffered an AC sprain,” according to Rapoport, and his return to the field “will be determined by the swelling and how he gains mobility.”

Carr has been a consistent performer throughout his career, appearing in 15 or more games in each of his first nine seasons with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders until joining the Saints this offseason.

When he’s in good shape, the 32-year-old puts up amazing stats.

From 2018 to 21, the four-time Pro Bowler tossed for more over 4,000 yards in four consecutive seasons. He has yet to win a single playoff game in his career, yet he is consistently capable of putting up big numbers.

This season, Carr had completed 63.8 percent of his throws for 553 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

Following Carr’s injury, Jameis Winston took his place. The Florida State product comes into the 2023 season with 80 starts on his resume, three of which came last year.

While he may not be as great as Carr, he can keep the Saints afloat until Carr returns.
