A clear and sad news Collingwood release latest injury update this evening

Collingwood coach Craig McRae has revealed Jeremy Howe has three separate breaks in his injured arm, conceding the brutal setback is “going to need a fair bit of work.”

The Magpies vice-captain underwent surgery last weekend to repair the horror injury — that included a compound fracture — sustained during the club’s win over Geelong last Friday night after landing awkwardly in a marking contest.

Howe was stretched off the MCG and immediately taken to hospital in gruesome scenes, with TV broadcasters opting not to show a replay of the incident.

“He showed me an X-ray of the arm, which looked like a cartoon picture, to be honest, there was breaks everywhere. (I thought) ‘wow’ and it was incredible to see the damage he’d done.”

McRae added that there still wasn’t a clear timeline on when the veteran defender could return to the field.

“Our advice is wait a couple of weeks, let’s see it settle down and then make an assessment from there,” the Magpies coach said.

“I know it’s going to need a fair bit of work in there because there was three breaks.

“Hopefully he’s at home recovering well and getting that bone healing going.”

Collingwood footy boss Graham Wright said last week the current priority is supporting Howe’s welfare.

“Jeremy is a respected leader of our program who really puts his body on the line,” Wright said.

“Our priority is making sure his welfare is supported through his recovery and we will do that.”

It leaves a key void down back for a Magpies side that’ll be full of confidence after its shock upset win over the reigning premiers ahead of an MCG showdown with Port Adelaide this Saturday.
