NEWS FLASH: Cunha reveal ‘We need to go again’

Matheus Cunha says the busy December fixture list is something Wolves’ small, but tight-knit squad will relish, as they prepare for the visit of Burnley.

The Clarets are in town three days after Wolves battled hard, but narrowly lost at the Emirates on Saturday. At Arsenal Cunha netted in consecutive matches for the first time in a Wolves shirt and led the line impressively, but after the defeat, the Brazilian says the Old Gold must dust themselves off quickly and focus on Burnley under the lights.

On moving on quickly

“We went there, a hard game, against an incredible team, but we had a chance to get a better result for us. We need to keep going, the next game is three days later, and we need to recover well because we need to go again.

“Everybody wants to play like this [lots of games], in the Premier League. We don’t have a lot of players in the group, so everyone needs to recover very well, keeping concentrated for every single game.”

On taking home form away

“We talked about maybe being a bit braver. We came here and showed our respect, but sometimes you respect a lot. It’s an incredible team, incredible stadium, but we need to get the mentality the same as Molineux.

“At home we play very well, the fans with us, but when we go away we need the same. We need to be a little bit braver, to keep focused and maybe we’ll get good results also away.”

On enjoying life under O’Neil

“I’m completely happy with him. He helped me a lot. We have a very good relationship and he’s very open with me, helping me a lot, and it shows on the pitch. I’m much more confident to help him, help myself and help my teammates.

“Every time you have someone behind you to push you up, to show your skills, and not only me, I think the team. The atmosphere inside the club is incredible, with him and everyone. All this stuff is good, we’re happy with that and I hope it continues.”

On bagging once more

“Shooting with both legs is important and when the ball comes there, as a striker, you think only to shoot. I shot very well to get this goal.”

On defending from the front

“It’s hard because when you play against a very good team, you need to defend. You are a little bit anxious because you want to play more, closer to the goal and to test the goal, but we need to help the team, that’s the most important point. The second half we had a little bit more power to go again. We did a very good second half and the game was better for us.”
