JUST NOW: Jaguars Doctor reveal a sad news for Lawrence this afternoon

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence exited his team’s “Monday Night Football” game after appearing to roll his right ankle in the fourth quarter vs. the Bengals.

The incident occurred as Jacksonville faced third down near Cincinnati’s red zone. The former Clemson quarterback had his right ankle stepped on by tackle Walker Little and, as he went to the ground, further twisted his leg. He remained on the turf at EverBank Stadium for several moments before trying to get up.

Lawrence then threw his helmet in frustration before trainers attended to him. Cameras later showed him being helped off the field and into the tunnel. Jaguars backup QB C.J. Beathard came into the game to replace the injured Lawrence.

Trevor Lawrence status

According to numerous reports, including from Jaguars senior writer John Oehser, Jacksonville deemed Lawrence “questionable” to return to the “MNF” game with an ankle injury. He ultimately did not return to a 34-31 overtime loss to Cincinnati.

Trevor Lawrence injury update

Lawrence was injured with roughly 6 minutes remaining in the game after Little stepped on Lawrence’s right ankle. Making matters worse, the defender who pushed Little into Lawrence, Trey Hendrickson, then tackled the quarterback in such a way that he further twisted his leg underneath him:

In the immediate aftermath of his injury, Lawrence sat on the turf for several moments as both Hendrickson and Jaguars receiver Zay Jones attempted to help him up. After attempting to leave the field on his own power, he collapsed on the field in pain and slammed his hand on the turf.

Video later showed Lawrence being helped off the field and heading into the locker room to receive an X-ray.

Update (Dec. 5): Jaguars coach Doug Pederson on Tuesday told reporters that Lawrence had “just” a high ankle sprain and that all other tests came back clean. He declined to give a timetable for recovery, but said Lawrence’s injury isn’t season-ending, adding that he won’t rule him out for Sunday’s game.

Doug Pederson comments on Trevor Lawrence

Speaking after the game, Pederson told reporters he didn’t have any further updates on Lawrence’s status, saying the QB still needed to undergo further testing and an MRI to determine the extent of his injury.

He later said he didn’t know his level of concern for Lawrence without first speaking to doctors.

Who is C.J. Beathard, Jaguars’ backup QB?

With Lawrence out for the rest of the game, Beathard stepped in to replace Lawrence. The former Iowa quarterback (2012-16) was a third-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. He played for the San Francisco 49ers from 2017-20 before signing with Jacksonville in 2021, where he has played since.

Beathard was credited with 3 completions on 4 attempts for 14 yards heading into “Monday Night Football.”
