LATEST NEWS: Wild have just signed him worth $210.6 million contract extension.

The Minnesota Wild re-signed forward Ryan Hartman on a three-year, $12 million deal, the team announced Saturday. Here’s what you need to know:

  • The contract extension runs through the 2026-27 season and carries a $4 million average annual value.
  • Hartman got a no-move clause added to the final year of his current contract and the first year of the new one as part of the deal, team sources said. It turns into a limited no-trade clause in Years 2 and 3 of the next contract.
  • Hartman, 29, put up 15 goals and 22 assists in 59 games for Minnesota last regular season, his fourth with the team, and tallied five points (two goals, three assists) in the playoffs.
  • Hartman has 107 goals and 126 assists in his nine-year career since he was drafted in the first round in 2013
  • Very. After doing the Wild a favor and taking a $200,000 a year haircut on his current three-year deal from his previous contract, Hartman started off the pact by scoring 34 goals — tied for the sixth-most in a Wild season, 33 of which were at even strength. Whether he’s perfectly fit for the role or not, he is the Wild’s No. 1 center. He’s one of their top penalty killers and a mainstay on the second unit, somebody who has always been elevated to the first unit if Joel Eriksson Ek is out of the lineupHe runs hot at times and has a tendency to take undisciplined penalties due to that, something he paid the piper for once last season with a healthy scratch. But if he keeps his cool and stays on the ice, he’s an effective competitor, somebody Kirill Kaprizov loves playing with. Hartman knows his job: get to the net or dig pucks out for Kaprizov and Mats Zuccarello, who recently signed a two-year extension. — Michael Russo, NHL and Wild senior writer

Tight. As all Wild fans know, like this season, Minnesota has to spend $14.7 million less than most every other team due to the final year of at least the big pain from the Ryan Suter and Zach Parise buyouts. With the recent extensions to Mats Zuccarello and Marcus Foligno, the Wild are down to $12.418 million of available cap space for next season with nine forwards, five defensemen and one goalie signed.

Locking Hartman up on a three-year deal does take up another top-six center spot, a position that is getting crowded. Kaprizov has three years left on his deal. Zuccarello has three years left. Eriksson Ek has six years left on his eight-year deal and Matt Boldy signed a seven-year deal last season. Minnesota hopes Marco Rossi becomes a No. 1 or 2 center eventually. If so, Hartman could be slotted down to third-line center or right wing, a position that Freddy Gaudreau is at. Gaudreau has five years on his deal. With Marcus Foligno locked up for five more years, this pretty much locks up their top-nine forwards except for second-line left wing, where Marcus Johansson has two years left.
