The Belleville (Mich.) native has three years of eligibility left. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Deasfernandes missed time in 2022 due to injury and then came back and played in 13 games in 2023.

“Whether it’s one of the most known schools in the nation, or one that is not as known, the main thing that is important to me right now is finding a school in which the coaches whole heartedly believe I can come in and make an immediate impact on defense,” he told 247Sports.

A three-star prospect out of high school, Deasfernandes was offered by the Hawkeyes after they saw him at the Lindenwood Mega-Camp and then came to perform at their summer camp on campus.

He has heard, early on, from schools like Michigan State and Western Michigan.

Iowa State came out firing, and the Cyclones did not let up as they blew Iowa out of Hilton Coliseum, 90-65, on Thursday.

With the loss, Iowa moves to 5-4 on the year, with its two road losses this week to Iowa State and Purdue coming by an average of 22 points.

There is still a lot of ball left to be played for Iowa. The Hawkeyes are only nine games into the season, but there have been several negative trends for Iowa in the early going.
