Patrick Mahomes’ contract with the Kansas City Chiefs has been restructured, making him the highest-paid player in the NFL between 2023 and 2026.

In 2020, the Chiefs quarterback agreed to a 10-year, $450 million (£363.3 million) contract extension. The ten-year contract was almost unheard of at the time, but due to the sport’s growing finances, he fell to eighth on the list of highest-paid NFL players at the start of this season.

The Chiefs have agreed to bring forward the money owed to Mahomes until 2030, meaning he will earn $210.6 million (£170 million) by 2026. Equity Sports CEO Chris Cabott assisted Mahomes in negotiating the contract and prioritized cash over guarantees.This offseason, Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson all outperformed Mahomes’ contract, as records in the NFL were broken four times. However, Mahomes will now be the highest-paid player through 2026, and the Chiefs will look to extend his current contract once more.
