What a sad news Wild lose their top defender to a serious injury until at least Dec 18

Insider Michael Russo reports that Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin “is going to miss significant time” after suffering an upper-body injury in the Wild’s 4-3 loss to Edmonton.

Brodin was injured in the third period when Evander Kane slammed him into the end boards, sending Brodin to the ice and skating off gingerly.

“You never want to see anybody get hit like that,” said Wild head coach John Hynes after the game.”It is not my responsibility to comment on the hit.” That is the referee’s responsibility. It’s an unfortunate situation, and losing [Brodin] at that point was difficult.”

Losing Brodin is a huge blow because he’s one of the league’s best defensemen, and it disrupts the developing blue line pairing with rookie Brock Faber. Head coach John Hynes will have to shift defensive pairings without Brodin, which could result in Alex Goligoski or Zach Bogosian returning to the lineup after being scratched in Edmonton.

Fans will get to see how Hynes performs on defense when the Wild take on Seattle on Sunday at 8 p.m. CT.
