GREAT NEWS: Here’s what stands out about the Texas Longhorns’ 2024 football schedule

While Steve Sarkisian and his staff are on the recruiting trail and preparing for Texas’ first-ever College Football Playoff appearance in a Sugar Bowl semifinal against No. 2 Washington (13-0) on Jan. 1, the program can now look forward to its inaugural season in the SEC.

The Longhorns’ 29-year run in the Big 12 is over (capped by their 2023 Big 12 title), and Texas’ eight-game conference schedule was meticulously revealed on Wednesday as part of a two-hour special on the SEC Network.

Texas will make its SEC debut by playing four of its first five games at home (the only away game being at Michigan on Sept. 7) before playing back-to-back games against Red River rival Oklahoma on Oct. 12, followed by 2021 and 2022 national champion Georgia visiting Austin for the first time since 1958 on Oct. 19.

The month of November will feature road games at former Southwest Conference rival Arkansas on Nov. 16, and the 119th Lone Star Showdown between Texas and Texas A&M will take place at Kyle Field on Nov. 30 (though that game could be moved to Thursday or Friday of that week, according to ESPN).

The SEC has an eight-game conference schedule (as opposed to the Big 12’s nine league games), and SEC divisions will be eliminated beginning in 2024.

We already knew that Texas would host Mississippi State, Kentucky, Florida, and Georgia while also visiting Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Dallas for the annual Red River Shootout against the Sooners.

But, thanks to the SEC Network’s big announcement on Wednesday night, we now know the dates for all of those games. Here are some highlights:
