DETROIT — After a couple of weeks filled with familiar doom and gloom around these parts, the Detroit Lions left their mark in front of another national prime-time audience.

The Lions beat the Denver Broncos 42-17, with this game never truly in doubt. They went into the break leading 21-0, and seemed to have an answer for just about every Denver possession. It was an all-around showing, too, with the defense putting the clamp downs after giving up a big play on the first snap, and Jared Goff and his young playmakers pouring on the points.

Goff matched a career high with five touchdown passes. The veteran quarterback protected the ball, and led an efficient attack without too many hiccups. He got it rolling with Amon-Ra St. Brown again, connecting seven times for 112 yards and one touchdown. He also hit rookie tight end Sam LaPorta five times for 56 yards and three scores.

Rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs ran 11 times for 100 yards and one score, with David Montgomery handling 17 attempts for 85 yards on the ground. And the defense got the early takeaway, then didn’t surrender much breathing room for the rest of this impressive victory
