Carter Smith, out of Bishop Verot in Fort Myers, was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Florida after a stellar junior season. The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder, who is ranked as the No. 148 overall prospect nationally, per the 247Sports Composite index, passed for 2,223 yards and 29 touchdowns with just four interceptions in 2023, leading the team to the Class 2S state quarterfinals and an 11-2 record.
He also rushed for 715 yards and 19 scores to give him 117 total touchdowns in his career – a Lee County record.
Smith has started all three years on varsity and has continued to ascend as a recruit. In November, he took his first visit to Ann Arbor for the Purdue game and verbally pledged shortly after, choosing Michigan over more than 20 other offers, including Florida, Florida State, Miami, Texas A&M and Penn State.
“He always has been and he continues to be just so coachable,” Bishop Verot head coach Richie Rode told the News-Press. “There’s really no arrogance as naturally gifted as he is and amazing a career as he’s had already.”
Smith is one of three Wolverines commits in the 2025 class along with Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep four-star cornerback Chris Ewald and Howell four-star defensive lineman Bobby Kanka.
