Gumbs becomes Florida’s fifth defensive transfer of the offseason, and its third along the defensive front, joining Joey Slackman of Pennsylvania and Brien Taylor Jr. of Blinn College (JUCO).

Gumbs, a rising redshirt junior, joins Florida with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Gumbs, a 2021 recruiting class product from Chicago (Ill.) Simeon, began his college career as a consensus three-star wide receiver but switched to tight end. In eight games in 2022, he caught four passes for 44 yards.

He switched to the defensive side of the ball ahead of the 2023 season and quickly found his stride. Gumbs had 32 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 6.5 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles in 12 games as a 6-foot-4, 242-pound defensive end. He appeared in the final seven games of the season.
