Red Wings win shootout over Flyers, with Kane scoring three points.

DETROIT, MI — Patrick Kane had two goals and an assist before scoring the game-winning goal in the shootout as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 7-6 on Friday at Little Caesars Arena.

Philadelphia trailed 5-1 after the first period, but pulled ahead 6-5 with 5:07 remaining in the third before Dylan Larkin tied it 37 seconds later.

“Obviously, it was a tough first period, but we stuck with it and battled to get a point,” said Flyers goalie Carter Hart. “That’s huge.”

For Detroit (16-13-4), Larkin had a goal and an assist, and Alex DeBrincat had three assists after the Red Wings had lost four in a row and seven of eight (1-6-1). Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond each had two assists.

“This is a big deal for us,” DeBrincat said. “Obviously, we’ve been fighting it for a while, so a win is huge for us.” Now we need to keep this momentum going and hopefully pick up another win tomorrow.”

For the Red Wings, James Reimer made 37 saves.

“I give Reimer a lot of credit,” said Detroit head coach Derek Lalonde. “He was obviously fighting it tonight, but he got us through the overtime and won it for us in the shootout.”

For Philadelphia (18-11-4), Scott Laughton had a goal and an assist, and Hart made 31 saves. The Flyers were coming off a 4-2 loss at home to the Nashville Predators on Thursday. Egor Zamula, Travis Sanheim, and Joel Farabee each had two assists.

“No one in this locker room is happy that we lost,” Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway said after the game. “I’m glad we got one point instead of zero.” This is a significant learning experience for us.”

At 4:30, Kane swept in a rebound after Larkin’s shot hit the post, giving the Red Wings a 1-0 lead. On the play, DeBrincat received his 200th NHL assist.

“Without [Kane] and my other teammates, I would never be at this milestone,” said DeBrincat, who has 33 assists on Kane’s goals for the Chicago Blackhawks. “You can see how well we work together because one of those assists hit my skate and went right to him.”

At 14:53, Owen Tippett gave the Flyers a 6-5 lead. Tippett poked the puck in behind Reimer after the puck trickled between his legs.

With 10 seconds left in overtime, Hart stopped Gostisbehere at point-blank range.

“I think sometimes when you’re in a slump you just need something to go your way,” Kane told reporters. “Obviously, we had a great start, but as it gets closer to 5-3, 5-4, a little doubt creeps in, but I thought we did a great job of hanging in there.” ‘Larks’ big goal to tie it at 6-6, and then [we] get another point in the shootout.
