Tennessee reclaims Mr. Penix Michael Jr.’s offer

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. wasn’t always a Pac-12 standout. Penix had been committed to the Tennessee Volunteers for months prior to early national signing day, but his offer was withdrawn when a new regime took over in Knoxville, Tennessee. Penix went into detail about what happened during the College Football Playoff championship media availability.

In high school, Penix was a long-time Tennessee commit, but after head coach Butch Jones was fired, the athletic department hired Jeremy Pruitt. Penix took to social media shortly after Pruitt’s hiring announcement to inform Tennessee fans that the new coaching staff had made it clear that he was not wanted in Knoxville, Tennessee, which occurred just a few days before early national signing day. A week later, he signed with the Indiana Hoosiers. During his brief stint with them, he showed promise, but injuries derailed his Big Ten career. Penix joined Washington two years ago after entering the transfer portal. He went on to have a successful career with the Huskies, finishing as the Heisman Trophy runner-up in 2023 and leading his team to an undefeated season if they can defeat Michigan in the national championship game. With one game remaining in his college career, Penix has thrown for 4,648 yards and 35 touchdowns.
