Watts was one of the first big transfer portal wins for Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff, pulling him in from Ohio State to fill a need in the secondary. The former four-star recruit from Little Elm ended up in Columbus after choosing the Buckeyes over the Oklahoma Sooners, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He appeared in 19 games over his two seasons in the Big Ten as a part of the 2020 and 2021 Buckeyes teams that won conference championships and played in the CFP.

He stepped in at Texas and immediately became one of the starting group of defensive backs, earning honorable mention All-Big 12 and honorable mention Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. In his second year at Texas, he missed three games due to injury, holding onto his spot as one of the top corners in the class, but saw players like Terrance Brooks and Malik Muhammad factor into the rotation and get more snaps as the season progressed.

Texas will have a solid core of defensive backs in the stable, with Brooks and Muhammad leading a young, but talented group as the Longhorns make the transfer to the SEC. As a part of the 2024 class, Texas added elite corner Kobe Black from Waco Connally who will likely factor into the plans for the 2024 secondary as an early enrollee.
