Red Wings have reduced their roster to 23.

Detroit will begin its 98th season on Thursday, October 12 with a road game against the New Jersey Devils at 7:30 p.m. at the Prudential Center.

DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings have assigned forwards Jonatan Berggren, Cross Hanas, and Elmer Soderblom, as well as defenseman Simon Edvinsson, to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. In addition, the Red Wings have assigned forward Nate Danielson to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League. Detroit has also designated forwards Matt Luff and Carter Mazur as injured non-rosters.

The roster moves bring the Red Wings to a 23-man roster that includes 13 forwards, seven defensemen, and three goalies. The Red Wings will open their 98th season on Thursday, October 12, with a road game against the New Jersey Devils at 7:30 p.m. at Prudential Center.
