Buffalo Sabres coach has been fired this evening

NHL Rumours

We’re back with another round of NHL rumors for the first few days of the week. Teams are deciding what to do with their players. General managers must consider whether to sign or trade some of them. A number of clubs faced expectations. However, two Atlantic Division teams have failed to meet expectations this season. There was hope that these teams would advance, but both have struggled. Today’s NHL rumors center around the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres.

All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

NHL Rumors: Ottawa Senators

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet shared an update on Shane Pinto’s current contract situation. This occurred during Saturday night’s Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada.

Friedman stated that there is a locker room stall and a contract waiting for Pinto. According to a Sportsnet insider, Pinto should be ready to return on January 21 against the Philadelphia Flyers. Pinto is allowed to practice 10 days before the 21st and to be near the team. A deal for this season would be pro-rated, which would benefit the Senators’ salary cap situation if Pinto signs it.

However, a new wrinkle could be introduced into the mix. The change in ownership may signal a shift in Pinto’s future in the Canadian capital. Friedman stated on the 32 Thoughts podcast that the new owners and the former University of North Dakota product are discussing a long-term agreement. Pinto appears to be a key member of the Senators’ core group going forward.

In a previous edition of NHL rumors, new General Manager Steve Staios stated that he wanted to acquire veteran players who are “pros.” These players are NHL-ready, but they can also handle themselves without constant supervision. Whatever the case may be, Staios will be busy. However, Pinto appears to be part of the group moving forward.
