A clear and troubling news from Gators this morning

Eugene “Tre” Wilson caught all six balls on Saturday, but left the Tennessee game in the first half due to an apparent collarbone injury.

After the game, head coach Billy Napier provided an update on Wilson’s condition, stating that X-rays were negative and that he is expected to return on Monday.

“Tre is banged up,” Napier said. “Nothing long term. Ultimately, the X-ray is normal, and I believe it will take him some time to return. Now it’s a matter of pain tolerance. It will be determined. It could be this week or next week. We will provide you with an official update on Wednesday.

Wilson is Florida’s highest-rated wide receiver on Pro Football Focus, with an 81.5 receiving grade after three weeks. He has the third most offensive snaps (79) among Florida receivers and the second most catches (12) on those targets.

The true freshman is already an important part of this offense, and losing him for just a week could slow down the passing game. Of course, the team’s top two wideouts, Ricky Pearsall and Caleb Douglas, remain healthy, so the dropoff should be minimal.

Wilson also returns punts for Florida, but he is listed as a “OR” option under Pearsall. The expectation is that Pearsall will take over until Wilson can return to the field.
