NEWS FLASH: Bulldogs key player finally under goes a successful surgery this morning

Ryan Sutton, a forward for Canterbury Bulldogs, has received an estimated return timeline following surgery a few days ago.

After recurring injuries, the front rower underwent a knee procedure at the Prince of Wales Hospital in late January to return to the NRL setup this season.

While the club has not confirmed a timeline for his return, NRL Physio stated that “the Bulldogs expect an 8-10 week rehab process before returning to play”.

Sutton, recruited from the Canberra Raiders before the start of last season, failed to meet expectations and was dropped to the NSW Cup for over a month before returning to the NRL team.

The Herald reported at the end of last season that he and Raymond Faitala-Mariner were given permission to leave the club, despite their high annual salary of $500,000 each.

The England 9s international reportedly met with club officials to discuss his future, potentially returning to the Super League in England.

The main reason given for his supposed permission to leave is that he is struggling to adjust to the team’s defensive style, which the forward is unfamiliar with.

Bulldogs General Manager Phil Gould confirmed that development player Zac Montgomery will take a break from rugby league in 2024 and will not join the club this season.

Montgomery, a prop at the club, made eight appearances in the NSW Cup last season. His performances included 150 tackles, 458 total metres, and two tries.
