BREAKING NEWS: He signs 2-year, $8.25M contract extension for top line security with Lions

According to Jordan Schultz, the Detroit Lions have signed wide receiver Daurice Fountain to their practice squad, making him the 12th reported member of the team’s supplemental roster.

Fountain was drafted in the fifth round by the Indianapolis Colts in 2018, but he only appeared in six games over three seasons with the team. Following that, he spent the 2021 season with the Kansas City Chiefs, mostly on the practice squad. He was a late addition to the Chicago Bears practice squad last year but did not play in a game, and he was cut from the team’s final roster this weekend. However, he did lead Bears receivers in preseason with seven catches, 115 yards, and this impressive touchdown grab:

Fountain was a highly productive weapon for Northern Iowa during his senior year. In 2017, he had 66 receptions for 943 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Fountain, 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, adds another big-bodied receiver with speed to Detroit’s roster. According to his RAS card, Fountain ran a 4.51 at his Pro Day and has an overall athletic score of 8.01.

The Lions decided to keep five receivers on the 53-man roster: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Kalif Raymond, Marvin Jones Jr., and rookie Antoine Green. Furthermore, they already have Dylan Drummond and Maurice Alexander on their practice squad, so Fountain is unlikely to make his way onto the field anytime soon. Nonetheless, he provides Detroit with another bigger receiver option, which they have lacked in recent years.
