What an unexpected great news from Tar Heels Coach this morning

• North Carolina and Miami meet for the first of two games in 17 days when the Tar Heels travel to Coral Gables for a 4 p.m. tip on Saturday, February 10 on ESPN.
• The Tar Heels are atop the standings at 10-2 in the ACC and are 18-5 overall. UNC is coming off an 80-76 loss to Clemson on Tuesday, its first home loss in 11 games.
• Three nights after beating No. 7 Duke in a top-10 matchup, the Tar Heels fell behind Clemson, 15-2, in the first 3:26, and never led as the Tigers won in Chapel Hill for the second time in 62 games.
• Carolina trailed by 16 in the first half (its largest deficit since December 5) but cut the margin to nine at the break and pulled even at 70 on a Harrison Ingram three with 4:17 to play. From there, the Tigers outscored UNC, 10-6, as Carolina committed three turnovers and missed three straight field goal attempts.

• Armando Bacot had 24 points and 13 rebounds vs. Clemson. He had 25 points, 10 boards and five assists in the previous game vs. Duke. Those were his 24th and 25th career games with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds.
• Miami is 15-8 overall, 6-6 in league play and 11-2 at home (Watsco Center losses to Louisville and Florida State). The Canes lost, 60-38, at Virginia on Monday.
• Carolina and Miami have represented the ACC in each of the last two NCAA Final Fours (the Tar Heels in New Orleans in 2022 and the Hurricanes in Houston in 2023).
• Carolina is 5-1 on the road this season, all six of which were ACC games. This is the 55th time in 71 seasons the Tar Heels will have at least a .500 record in ACC play and a win at Miami would secure the 44th winning season on the road in the ACC.
• The Tar Heels and Hurricanes are two of the top five scoring teams in the ACC (UNC first at 82.8 ppg and Miami fifth at 79.0).
• UNC (first) and Miami (fifth) are also among the top five in the ACC in rebound margin.
• Carolina leads the ACC in three-point percentage defense (30.1%), while Miami is fourth in three-point accuracy (37.1%).
• Carolina is No. 3 in the Associated Press poll for the third week in a row. These are UNC’s highest rankings since being ranked third in the final three weeks in 2018-19.
• RJ Davis is the ACC’s leading scorer in all games (21.3 points per game) and ACC games  (21.5).
• Harrison Ingram was named co-ACC Player of the Week following the Georgia Tech and Duke games. He is the third Tar Heel (with RJ Davis and Armando Bacot) to win the award this season. It’s the first time since 2018-19 three different Tar Heels won ACC Player-of-the-Week honors.
