He signs 2-year, $5.75 million contract with Flyers

After the All-Star break, the Philadelphia Flyers, led by John Tortorella, have surpassed all expectations in 2023–24 and are currently third in the Metropolitan Division. With three months remaining, Philly is still right in the thick of things, despite the general expectation that this team would miss the playoffs once more.

Defenseman Sean Walker has been linked to trade rumors virtually the entire season, which makes sense given that he will be an unrestricted free agent this summer despite the team’s success.

According to Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Tortorella said, “When it comes to the deadline, we’re going to listen.” “We’ll take action if we believe it is best for the organization’s future. We’ll see where it goes; those guys with expiring contracts, everyone’s always kind of looking around. We wouldn’t be dopes if we didn’t listen, but we’re not out there shopping for Sean Walker.

Walker, a right-hander who can play on either side of the defense, has played a significant role in the Flyers’ continued inclusion in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. With five goals and 19 points in 52 games, the Ontario, Canada native is second on Philadelphia’s blueline while averaging slightly more than 19 minutes of ice time every night.

In light of the fact that Walker will only earn $2.65 million in 2023–2024, it is obvious that many teams will be vying for his services prior to the NHL Trade Deadline on March 8.
