One of the best linebackers in the nation is still up for grabs by the Longhorns.

Now that the 2024 recruiting season is officially over, it’s time to concentrate only on 2025 prospects and beyond.

Although Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns coaching staff have been working hard to cultivate relationships with outstanding prospects across the country, their efforts are already paying off in their home state.

Riley Pettijohn, a four-star linebacker from McKinney, disclosed on Wednesday that he has already narrowed his list of possible colleges to just six. Pettijohn has received offers from prestigious universities across the country.

His top six also included the Longhorns, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and USC.

At this point in the cycle, when the spring window is getting closer, it is not unusual to see outstanding prospects like Pettijohn compile his list of potentials. In order to give recruits a chance to watch teams in action when the pads return, this spring, recruits will visit various campuses across the country to watch spring practices. Before choosing who he will officially see in the summer, I won’t be surprised if Pettijohn pays a visit to a few of his finalists in the spring.

Pettijohn recorded 120 tackles (10 TFLs), three sacks, five PBUs, one interception, and a very successful junior season in 2023.
