BREAKING NEWS: Flyers captain made the unbelievable news

The Philadelphia Flyers are not changing their asking price for Scott Laughton, and rightfully so. For a number of years, he has been a valuable member of the team, playing at various positions. He is a true all-around player with two years remaining on his very attractive $3 million AAV contract after this season.

A number of teams have contacted the Flyers about Laughton at various points, and while the team has moved on from rebuilding to retooling, bringing back a first-round pick for the 29-year-old would be extremely beneficial. While teams pay a first-round pick for rentals, this price, combined with the cap hit and term, is something I’m surprised more teams aren’t asking about.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Colorado Avalanche are one team specifically linked to Laughton. This team is currently without Gabriel Landeskog and Valeri Nichushkin and could benefit from additional depth up front.

The Avalanche made some changes during the offseason, but performance and player absences have resulted in the same outcome. The Avalanche’s season was cut short early in 2022-23 due to a lack of depth, and they are not about to repeat it. Laughton’s versatility and style of play would have a significant impact on Colorado’s lineup. Because they are Stanley Cup contenders and expect to be for many years, Laughton can participate in three playoff runs while still under contract.

I don’t believe the Flyers will have a difficult time finding a trade partner for Laughton closer to the deadline. This season, they appear to be leaving room for themselves and other teams to join the conversation.
