It’s likely that many of the games the UNC men’s basketball team played from mid-December to late-January ended in convincing UNC victories.
During this time, the Tar Heels (19-6, 11-3) went on a 10-game winning streak and emerged as a Final Four contender. After defeating Oklahoma, who had never lost before, North Carolina won its tenth straight game on the road against Florida State.
UNC has appeared much more like an at-large NCAA Tournament team since that victory in Tallahassee in late January. While North Carolina triumphed handily over archrival Duke and Miami (FL), they also suffered defeats at the hands of Georgia Tech, Syracuse, and Clemson.
Despite having lost to Duke by a half-game in ACC play, UNC is now ranked three in the most recent USA Today bracketology.
A discernible trend over the past five games for North Carolina has been a decline in defensive output. All five of the Tar Heel opponents’ opponents have scored at least 70 points, after the team’s lengthy winning streak did not permit any opponent to score more than 70 points.

Most recently, Syracuse won unexpectedly on Tuesday by shooting almost 63 percent. Neither Judah Mintz nor JJ Starling scored 20 points, but two players from UNC did.
