After competing in the Raleigh Relays at NC State from Thursday through Saturday earlier in the week, Rutgers track and field wrapped up a split weekend at the Sam Howell Invitational on the Princeton campus on Saturday. As the team gets ready for the outdoor season, the Scarlet Knights delivered a number of standout performances, including one from Alex Carlson that set a school record.
Rutgers sent a group of distance runners to the Raleigh Relays, an annual event that attracts some of the best competition in the country, during the third weekend of the outdoor campaign. A different group of the team went to Princeton to compete in the Sam Howell Invitational.
On Friday at NC State, Carlson set a school record in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:16.31. An outdoor record was added as a result.Liam Tilton and Dan Pedretti both placed among the top 10 in the men’s division. Pedretti’s time of 14:36.20 puts him seventh on the list of the top ten, while Tilton’s time of 14:26.42 places him third all-time. In the women’s 5,000-meter run, Lorena David also set a top-10 all-time mark, finishing ninth in the record with a time of 17:14.54.
won two individual titles at the Sam Howell Invitational: Bryce Tucker won the 400-meter hurdles in 52.28 seconds, and Alicia Campbell won the shot put with a throw of 14.48 meters (47’6.25″). In the hammer throw, Campbell finished third with a distance of 50.95 meters (167 feet, 2 inches).
On April 5–6, the Scarlet Knights will go to the South Florida Invitational.
