What a clear and troubling news for West Indies ….

The 15-person team for the April–May tour to Pakistan has been announced by the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s Selection Panel. Three (3) One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three (5) Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) make up the eight-match series.

Following her impressive performances with her right-arm medium pace in the recently concluded CG United Women’s Super50 Cup and T20 Blaze tournaments, Kate Wilmott received her first call-up to the senior team.

Having missed the previous tour to Australia in 2023, Qiana Joseph and Chedean Nation, who both put on strong performances, were called back to the squad.

“The upcoming series against is extremely important for the team as they return to international competition after almost six months, with the last series being against Australia,” stated Ann Browne-John, lead selector for women’s cricket. In addition to the three One-Day Internationals, the team will play some crucial Twenty20 matches in order to get ready for the T20 World Cup later this year.

“The batting will be strengthened by the return of veteran player Chedean Nation, and 19-year-old fast bowler Kate Wilmott will be making her debut,” Browne-John continued. It is hoped that the players’ encouraging performances from the regional tournament, where some of the more seasoned players competed, will carry over into the Pakistan series.

A thrilling five-match T20I series will take place from April 26 to May 3, following the ODI Series. In addition to providing fans with exhilarating cricket action, this T20I series will give both teams valuable competitive cricket to hone their abilities and tactics in advance of the forthcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Bangladesh in September following the Women’s CPL.

To get ready for the upcoming Pakistan tour, the West Indies Women will gather in Dubai on April 6 for a one-week training camp.
