Jose Altuve targeted by Yankees fan chant despite being thousands of miles away
Even when Jose Altuve is in a different time zone, New York Yankees fans never pass up the chance to get even with him.
An intriguing chant was let out by the Bronx fans during Saturday’s Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays game in New York. Right field started to sound off against Altuve, according to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic.
It was confirmed by Max Goodman of NJ.com that the cry was the incredibly lyrical “F–k Altuve!”
On Saturday, Altuve and the Houston Astros were playing in Arlington against the Texas Rangers, a long distance away. However, the majority of baseball fans—including and especially Yankees fans—still despise the former AL MVP Altuve. In the 2017 season, Altuve had a major role in Houston’s notorious cheating incident (during which the Astros defeated the Yankees in the ALCS). To exacerbate the situation, the Yankees have also been ousted from the playoffs by the Astros in three additional seasons during the past ten years (2015, 2019, and 2022).
Why the Yankees fans chose to yell their anti-Altuve chant on a Saturday of all days is because the rival Blue Jays are led by George Springer. As a member of that infamous Houston squad in 2017, Springer probably reopened some old scars. Don’t worry, though; Yankees supporters were also able to spend the day with players who were present on the field.
