JUST NOW: The guard for the Golden State Warriors is once again incorrect in the All-NBA Rookie rankings.

Despite being selected with the 19th overall choice in the 2023 NBA Draft, rookie guard Brandin Podziemski has been one of the Golden State Warriors’ bright spots this season.

Because of his remarkable ability to win, Podziemski momentarily replaced Klay Thompson, a future Hall of Fame player and franchise icon, as the starting shooting guard. Even though Podziemski will now play only reserve games to end the season, he is still averaging the fifth-most minutes of any Warrior.

The guard for the Golden State Warriors, Brandin Podziemski, is fifth among rookies in assists per game, sixth in rebounds, and tenth in scoring. The only other rookie with a higher net rating among those who have played in at least 15 games this season is Chet Holmgren. Despite Podziemski’s impressive season, he may not be selected to the All-NBA First Team.

Podziemski’s inclusion on one of the All-NBA Rookie teams is almost a given; the only uncertainty is which squad he will be on. Dan Favale of Bleacher Report believes that the Santa Clara product has a better chance of being selected for the Second Team.

It’s difficult to leave him off the starting squad. I’m not completely convinced about his shooting efficiency. With an 11-of-20 clip on step-back treys, he is making over 43.3% of his pull-up threes. However, he doesn’t always deliver the volume required to maximize the pressure he puts on defenses, and his runners can be disorganized. The challenges with free throw shooting are also peculiar.”

Although it is difficult to disagree with Brandon Miller, Chet Holmgren, and Victor Wembanyama’s frontcourt, the backcourt positions are far more deserving of discussion. Podziemski feels that he has been treated unfairly on a few instances already this season, and this is just another instance in which he might feel mistreated.

In the First-Team, Favale has Jaime Jacquez Jr. and Cason Wallace ahead of Podziemski; both players likely gain by being on a team that is higher in the rankings. Compared to Podziemski, Jacquez scores more points per game but much fewer rebounds and assists.
