News Now: The 49ers should draft another quarterback.

The 49ers used to boast about how good their quarterback room was.

No, they didn’t have a franchise quarterback, but they did have three quarterbacks they believed they could win with, and depth at that position was critical to them.

Apparently not anymore. Now they have Brock Purdy, who they feel will be their franchise quarterback for the next ten years. Suddenly, the quarterback room is irrelevant. They have Joshua Dobbs, a backup quarterback who should be a third-stringer. They also have Brandon Allen, a third-string quarterback who should be a fourth-stringer or coach.

This implies the 49ers desperately need a backup quarterback. Someone with potential and upside. Someone the 49ers will select this year. Someone like Purdy.

Because, as excellent as the 49ers are, there is no guarantee they will win games with Dobbs or Allen. Last year, Dobbs started 12 games for two teams, threw 10 picks, and fumbled 14 times. Not excellent. And Allen has only started nine games in his career, winning two of them.

The 49ers need to improve their quarterback situation. And they are not required to draft one in Rounds 1, 2, or 3. They can improve their quarterback situation by selecting a quarterback in Rounds 6 or 7. Because they don’t need the biggest man with the strongest arm. They can win with a short quarterback with a poor arm if he is clever, poised, mature, accurate, anticipates, and moves well.

Few teams are seeking for quarterbacks who match that profile. The 49ers have a kind, and it is abundant. Go draft one.

How the Shanahan-Lynch Coaching Tree Benefited the 49ers in the NFL Draft
For the San Francisco 49ers, success is defined not just by on-field victories, but also by the ability to cultivate talent in the locker room and in the front office. The team’s devotion to developing personnel within its organization has resulted in on-field success as well as a coaching/front office tree led by Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch that is still growing throughout the league.

Logan Ryan retires from the NFL, citing safety concerns. Logan Ryan jumped at the chance to play at least part of his 11th NFL season when the San Francisco 49ers approached him in late November. The two-time Super Bowl champion had not been on a roster since the end of his 2022 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he was called in to help fortify a secondary that was gearing up for a long playoff run. Ryan’s choice to sign with San Francisco resulted in his third and last Super Bowl appearance. Ryan played in several secondary positions and assisted on special teams during his eight games with the 49ers (including the playoffs).

2024 Mock Draft Monday 2.0: Analysts Target an Offensive Lineman in Round 1
We’re about two weeks away from the commencement of the 2024 NFL Draft, and for the San Francisco 49ers, this is their first chance to return to first-round action since 2021.

The team’s first-round picks in 2022 and 2023 were part of the concessions made in a trade for quarterback Trey Lance during the 2021 NFL Draft, and last year, the team didn’t make a pick until the third round after trading their second-round pick to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for running back Christian McCaffrey. In 2024, the 49ers have the 31st overall pick and plan to make nine more picks in the following rounds.

Off the field, quarterback Josh Dobbs chases the 2024 solar eclipse 🌙.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Joshua Dobbs, widely nicknamed as “The Passtronaut,” traveled to Cleveland, Ohio, to witness a total solar eclipse.

A total solar eclipse happens when the Earth, moon, and sun are perfectly aligned. For a brief instant, the moon fully obscures the sun, darkening the sky and transforming day into night, creating an incredible sight. According to NASA, the complete solar eclipse on April 8 will be the last in the contiguous United States until August 22, 2044.
