SPORT: A former 49ers player calls for a pivotal player to depart for a stronger team.

Although Brandon Aiyuk’s San Francisco 49ers aren’t making the public aware of his trade status, some in the league are acting as though he is. Aiyuk recently received a message from a former teammate urging the top wide receiver for the 49ers to sign with the New England Patriots.

It is said that Aiyuk and the 49ers are not near in their pursuit of a long-term contract. Although the 49ers declared last month that they had no intention of trading Aiyuk, there have been rumors that the organization may begin to consider a deal near the 2024 NFL Draft.

Aiyuk is looking for compensation akin to that of a legitimate number-one receiver, which would come out to almost $30 million annually. He is not yet considered by the 49ers to be a $30 million pass receiver. In the 2025 offseason, quarterback Brock Purdy will likely receive a contract extension, therefore the 49ers will need to accept the fact that they cannot retain all of their key players.

Aiyuk’s natural trade partner has been considered to be the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, a new squad may be involved. Former 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne contacted Aiyuk on social media, according to 49ers Webzone:

The Patriots may be a compelling choice for Aiyuk’s group. With the third overall choice in the draft, the Patriots are anticipated to select a quarterback. For a rookie team in dire need of a pass catcher, Aiyuk would be of immeasurable assistance.

As seen by his two finest seasons as a professional, Aiyuk got along well with young quarterbacks, having played with Purdy in each of his rookie and second seasons (2022 and 2023).

If the 49ers were able to get the 34th overall selection in the draft from the Patriots, would they trade Aiyuk?
