Good News: Just In Celtics Confirm The Signing Of Another Top Star

Report: C’s signing Holiday to four-year contract extension

Jrue Holiday isn’t leaving Boston any time soon.

The Celtics and the veteran point guard have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $135 million, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Wednesday night.

The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach reports that Holiday has a player option for the final year of his agreement.

In September of last year, Holiday was sent by the Milwaukee Bucks to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the historic Damian Lillard trade. A few days later, the two-time All-Star was acquired by the Celtics from Portland in return for draft picks, Malcolm Brogdon, and Robert Williams.

With a league-best 62-17 record, that move has been a big factor in the C’s securing the NBA’s top overall seed. Five-time All-Defensive pick Holiday has lived up to expectations. After playing 68 games, he’s shooting 48.1 percent from the field (a career-best 43.1 percent from three) and dishing out 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 0.9 steals per game.

The Celtics squad will benefit from Holiday’s championship experience when the club starts its postseason run later this month. In 2021, the 33-year-old assisted the Bucks in winning the NBA.
