“Being Traded To Lions Was The Greatest Thing That Ever Happened To Me.” Lions’ QB Jared Goff Acknowledges His Trade To ‘Lions’ As Turning Point Of Career

In 2021, the Los Angeles Rams traded Goff to the Detroit Lions. The deal saw the Rams’ star quarterback, Jared Goff, exchange helmets with Matthew Stafford of the Lions, a move that many scrutinized.

With this statement, Goff presented his take on the unexpected shift in his career and personal development.

“Being shipped off and being sent to a place to die, essentially, is what a lot of people think it was, and I was never going to allow that to happen,” Goff said. “I’m fortunate enough to be around a lot of good coaches and players in Detroit that support me and help me reach my potential.”

Despite the initial scrutiny, Goff quickly proved his worth after the rocky first session with the Lions earning his third Pro Bowl selection in 2022.

The Lions also ended the year on a high note, finishing second in the NFC North with a commendable 9-8 record.

In 2023, Goff and the Lions emerged stronger. With Goff at the helm, the Lions sealed the game in their division, finishing the regular season with a 12-5 record and securing the No. 3 seed for the NFC playoffs.

The highlight of the season came during the Wild Card Weekend. Goff helped the Lions clinch their first playoff win in 32 years by defeating his old team, the Rams.

Following the Wild Card Weekend triumph, the Lions rode the momentum to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round but were eventually ousted by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.

Throughout the season, Goff exhibited stellar performance. Throwing for 4,575 yards and 30 touchdowns with a career-high completion percentage of 67.3%.

Looking ahead, Goff and his Lions’ team are undoubtedly primed for success. Given their recent performance and enhanced team synergy, fans can confidently anticipate more thrilling football from Detroit Lions’ number 16.
