For the most of the offseason, draft experts have linked Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mims addressed the rumors head-on in front of reporters on April 24.
Mims stated unequivocally that he would not mind playing for the Steelers, who selected two of his previous teammates in the 2017 NFL Draft.
When questioned about the possibility of playing with Broderick Jones and Darnell Washington once more, Mims responded, “It would mean a lot,” according to Steelers Depot. Just getting back together with the guys from Georgia, as I mentioned. Guys like George, Darnell, and, of course, Broderick. We have a bond, as I mentioned.
It will be wonderful to spend as much time as possible—however long I am there—with them. That will be very pleasant, then.
Broderick Jones, Mims’ offensive linemate, was selected by the Steelers with the 14th overall pick in the first round of the previous season. In the third round, Pittsburgh selected Bulldogs tight end Darnell Washington.
The Steelers selected Georgia wide receiver George Pickens in the 2022 draft.
It wouldn’t be shocking if Pittsburgh kept targeting Georgians in the NFL Draft in 2024. The NFL mock draft database shows that the Steelers are predicted to target Mims at No. 20 overall in 15.1% of mock selections.
Mims was ranked No. 20 among the Steelers’ second-most-likely draft picks. Additionally, he was only narrowly placed second.
Jackson Powers-Johnson of Oregon is seen by the NFL mock draft database as the Steelers’ most likely first-round selection. In all, 15.2% of NFL mock drafts projected Pittsburgh to choose the Oregon center in the first round.

Mims will fit in, so the Steelers won’t have to worry. Mims was a college teammate of all three of the Georgia players on Pittsburgh’s roster. Together, they also took home national titles.
The Steelers might start a Georgia combo at left and right tackle in 2024 if they selected Mims in the first round. After the 2022 season, Mims took the starting position at right tackle, whereas Jones played left tackle in college.
Dan Moore Jr., a 2021 fourth-round pick, played 11 games at left tackle while Jones, a rookie, started at right tackle. However, it doesn’t seem like the team’s long-term strategy is that.
“On the offensive line, versatility is key. Jones demonstrated his ability to play right tackle. However, Khan told reporters at the NFL combine on February 29 that he was drafted to be a left tackle and that’s what he will eventually be. “Time will tell when that happens, but he was drafted as a left tackle.”
In 2024, the Steelers might move Jones back to left tackle if Mims is prepared to play right away. Mims might take over at right tackle in the interim. Moore, who is a bad player, would be moved by it.
Given that Mims has experience playing with Jones and his Georgia teammates, he is a good fit for the Steelers. But for the Steelers, it’s not Mims or bust.
By selecting Powers-Johnson, who has also been a well-liked selection by Pittsburgh in mock drafts, the Steelers would acquire a fresh center option. The Steelers did not have a natural center on their roster going into the draft.
Graham Barton of Duke is another center Pittsburgh might select at No. 20.
