For good reason, Stephen Curry will not be defending his Lake Tahoe celebrity golf title this summer.

One may argue that Nick Taylor’s explosive putt at the Canadian Open was the most spectacular made by an NBA player in 2023. Naturally, we’re referring to Stephen Curry’s game-winning walk-off eagle at Lake Tahoe to win the American Century Championship.

Appropriately, the four-time NBA champion stunned previous champion Mardy Fish by making a stunning three-pointer on the last hole to become the first active athlete to win the tournament in almost 25 years. In case you forgot, here it is:

That occurred just one day after Curry’s hole-in-one. What a beautiful week it has been. Sadly, though, he will not be returning to the event this year. Hold on, what?

Curry genuinely has a compelling argument for not defending his championship. The 36-year-old got selected to play basketball for Team USA in the upcoming summer Olympics.

Curry released a statement saying, “I’m sad that I won’t be able to defend my title at the American Century Championship in Tahoe this summer, but I simply could not pass up the opportunity to represent my country and, hopefully, win an Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Games in Paris.” “I’m excited to visit the Lake Tahoe shores again in July of next year and make even more memories there.” I’m sure Dell and Seth will do a great job representing the Curry family while I’m away, but I’ll be very sad if one of them doesn’t bring home another trophy for our mantel!

Makes sense, although the tournament and NBC are certainly disappointed the NBA superstar won’t be back in Lake Tahoe in July. That being said, the network will benefit from his presence in Paris.

“Well, we’ve discovered that the only thing Stephen Curry can’t do is be in two places at once,” said Jon Miller, President, NBC Sports Acquisitions and Partnerships. “Obviously, the tournament and our fans are as disappointed as Steph that he can’t be here, but representing our country at the Olympics and going for gold is a proud priority to support. We wish Team USA and our entire Olympic contingent well and look forward to having Steph defend his American Century title in 2025.”

We look forward to it as well. And we’re sure Steph will keep his golf game sharp. Heck, he’ll probably bring his clubs to Paris.
