News Flash: With a 9-4 victory over the Astros, the Yankees have now won five consecutive games.

The New York Yankees are on a roll, having swept the Detroit Tigers before defeating the Houston Astros 10-3 in the series opener. The Yankees would try to win their 25th game of the season with Carlos Rodon on the mound, looking to make it five in a row and avenge a poor start in Baltimore. Their offense has been on fire in recent games after dropping the ball in Baltimore, and they would once again demonstrate their prowess with the bats as they pounded the Astros’ pitching staff for nine runs.

With a strong start from Carlos Rodon, the Yankees cruised to a 9-4 victory over the Astros, their sixth straight win against Houston this season, and another series triumph at home.

Carlos Rodon Shoves, Juan Soto, Aaron Judge. Shine in Yankees’ Win

This game began in a similar fashion to yesterday’s, with Kyle Tucker hitting another first-inning home run to put the Astros ahead 1-0. This lead, like yesterday’s, would not last the inning, as Juan Soto replied with a two-run homer. The Yankees ambushed rookie starter Spencer Arrighetti, who appeared out of sorts and overmatched on the mound, giving New York a lead they would not relinquish throughout the game.

After Carlos Rodon settled in with a scoreless second inning, Juan Soto tallied his third RBI of the game by beating out an infield single, albeit Anthony Volpe’s baserunning error allowed him to advance to third while Gleyber Torres remained on base. Aaron Judge would come up in the bottom of the third and blast a solo home run to make it 4-1, and Giancarlo Stanton would smash a baseball at 119.9 MPH, the hardest-hit ball of the 2024 season thus far.

Both sides would swap zeroes until the sixth inning, when an RBI groundout for Soto and an Aaron Judge two-RBI double turned the game into a blowout, with the Yankees leading 8-1. After cruising through six innings, Carlos Rodon let up back-to-back extra-base hits to Mauricio Dubon and Jake Meyers, but Caleb Ferguson retired the next two batters in order, leaving Rodon’s final line at 6.1 innings, 2 runs, 0 walks, and 7 strikeouts.

His ERA this season is 3.38, and the Yankees hope he can build on this start and continue to pitch well for the Bronx Bombers. Jeremy Pena blasted a solo home run off Victor Gonzalez in the eighth to make it 8-3, but Juan Soto delivered his fifth RBI of the day, making it 9-3 and putting the Astros away for good. They’d get an RBI single from Jose Altuve in the eighth, but it wasn’t enough as the Yankees won 9-4.

They’ll have an opportunity to complete the sweep tomorrow night, with an unusual 5:05 PM start at Yankee Stadium, with Ronel Blanco against Marcus Stroman.
