News Now: We still expect a “good role” for Treylon Burks

When the Titans struck an agreement to sign wide receiver Tyler Boyd this week, some speculated that his arrival would be bad news for Treylon Burks.

With DeAndre Hopkins and Calvin Ridley already on the roster, there appeared to be little room for the 2022 first-round pick, especially now that Boyd is also a receiver. Burks’ dismal performance in his first two seasons did little to change that perception, but Titans head coach Brian Callahan reaffirmed on Thursday that the organization still sees Burks as a contributor heading into the 2024 season.

“We’ve made it very clear to Treylon that Tyler’s signing isn’t about him,” Callahan told Nick Suss of the Tennessean. “It’s about helping our team improve. Adding superior players to our roster. Making us into a competitive football squad. He’s done an excellent job and worked efficiently. I believe he can still play a valuable role for us.”

The Titans’ roster structure indicates that they will be in three-receiver sets for the majority of the season, so a fourth wideout in a rotational role should have opportunities to play. That was not where the Titans expected things to go when they drafted Burks, but it appears to be his best-case scenario this autumn.
