News Now: Breaking Down Brian Allen’s Contract with the Cleveland Browns

We finally have the contract for Germain Ifedi, who is the 81st of 91 players on the roster. They can go up to 91 because Roy Mbaeteka has been designated as the club’s foreign player for the 2024 season, which does not count against the team’s 90-man offseason roster maximum. We are still waiting for UDFA signatures, so my total of 91 players will not be updated until they are official.

It takes a few days once an extension is signed for the information to get to sites like Over The Cap for me to report on it. I never take too much notice of the initial reports including ‘up to’ as these come from the agent’s side, and they regularly inflate the numbers using unlikely-to-be-earned incentives and others as they want to use them to attract future clients. It gives you a good steer for what the deal is likely to be, but you won’t see me write on the numbers until we get everything official. Sometimes this can take a few days, you won’t see me write on deals until I have the official breakdown.

Here are the articles so far in the 2024 free agency series so far and their 2024 salary cap hits:

Treyton Welch is the top prospect to watch at rookie camp.

With Cleveland’s rookie minicamp beginning on Friday, analysts will be watching how the numerous new players aiming to reach an NFL team perform in their first tryout this weekend.
The six-member draft class from last month’s procedure will be there, as will other invited prospects.

Although the Browns have yet to confirm their class of undrafted free agents for this year, social media posts and reports from reporters have revealed at least nine players’ intentions to join with the Browns.
Beyond the draft picks, former Wyoming tight end Treyton Welch is the most likely to make the 2024 roster.

Welch was the Cowboys football program’s poster kid, both physically and figuratively, as Wyoming used him in a 2022 promotional film for the school.

The tight end helped Wyoming win three consecutive seasons for the first time since the 1990s.

Welch appeared in 49 games over five seasons, starting all of them since the 2021 season.

Throughout his college career, the athlete caught 77 catches for 874 yards and nine touchdowns.

While his numbers are not great, Wyoming ran the ball more than 60% of the time, limiting Welch’s opportunities to make receptions.
Last year, his 31 receptions for 308 yards placed second on the team in both categories.
Beyond the numbers, what really stands out is his general ability.

Welch played wide receiver in high school before switching to tight end.
Despite running a 4.63-second 40-yard sprint, Welch garnered great ratings for his explosion testing and broad jump.
Welch has the best chance of making the roster because of the team’s small tight end group right now.
