News Now: Steelers sign another star after rookie minicamp.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a need at cornerback entering rookie minicamp, and it appears they recognized it and have expanded their cornerback room.
Pittsburgh has signed cornerback Anthony Averett, who participated in their rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

Averett did not play in the NFL in 2023. He last played for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, appearing in seven games. He spent 2018-21 with the Baltimore Ravens, intercepting three passes in 2021.

The Steelers acquired Donte Jackson from the Carolina Panthers as part of the trade that sent wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Panthers, but the position remained thin. The only other viable outside cornerbacks on the roster were Cory Trice and Darius Rush. Beanie Bishop was signed as an undrafted free agent out of West Virginia, although he will play slot cornerback.

Terrell Owens’ feud with Steve Mariucci established the tone for his entire career.
