These are the teams that would trade for Hendon Hooker because he currently has no realistic future with the Detroit Lions.
It was always going to happen, now it’s official. The Detroit Lions and Jared Goff have reached a four-year contract agreement, meaning that Hendon Hooker’s chances of starting for the NFL are gone.
Having spent the majority of his rookie season the previous year recovering from an ACL tear sustained late in his last collegiate season, Hooker is an unproven player. Although he is expected to be Goff’s primary backup this season, he will not play significant game snaps until Goff is hurt because he is an older incoming prospect who is currently 26 years old.
.. It’s likely that by the time his three-year rookie contract expires in January 2027, he won’t have participated in any regular season games. He will be 29 years old.
It’s vital to have a strong backup quarterback, and the Lions need it more than many other teams do. Their hopes of winning the Super Bowl this year would vanish along with Goff. Even though Hooker has significantly more latent potential than Nate Sudfeld, it remains unclear if he is that.
Though the Lions have never wavered in their declaration that Goff is their long-term quarterback, it is debatable if it was a wise choice to choose Hooker given his advanced age and recent serious injury. If nothing else, Hooker is not a tradeable asset, thus it’s difficult to see him asking for a trade the way we envision players doing that.
It’s unlikely that Hooker will be dealt before training camp. His college footage is available to other clubs prior to his injury, and the preseason will provide him the chance to distinguish himself in case the Lions consider trading for him. These five teams might be considering a deal for Hooker based on that preseason concept.

5. The New York Jets
This year, the Jets selected Jordan Travis, who may have been selected sooner had he not suffered an injury during his last collegiate season. Travis is a potential replacement for Aaron Rodgers. As long as Rodgers is their quarterback, they are unquestionably all in, but for how long that will last, mainly depends on his whims and demands.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Jets to take many chances this offseason on a future quarterback, but if things don’t work out this season, significant changes may also occur the following year.
If the Lions are willing to deal Hooker, they may try to avoid putting him in a bad situation by trying to be helpful to him. The Jets represent dysfunction—whether genuine or appearing to be bubbling beneath the surface—but come preseason, they might show a strong interest in Hooker and make the Lions an offer they can’t turn down.
