NEWS NOW: After making his Falcons debut, Michael Penix stated…

As early as the first month of the season, the Falcons may have a quarterback issue, whether Terry Fontenot and Raheem Morris want it or not. Hell, if Kirk Cousins is sitting out this offseason and Michael Penix is killing it at Flowery Branch, it might be here.

I have no notion what the perfect schedule for Atlanta might entail. All I know is that the Falcons want this switch from the veteran to a southpaw to go as smoothly as possible.

Is that, however, after the first year? Although the Falcons will have a lot of dead money left over from Cousins, they will be able to utilize portion of Penix’s rookie deal. Is that following the second year? They won’t have as much dead money to deal with, and Penix will have spent the previous two seasons developing under a fantastic quarterback in Kirk Cousins.

Given that there doesn’t appear to be a clear-cut “ideal” schedule for the Falcons in this situation, what is Michael Penix’s most likely timeline? When can we reasonably anticipate the Falcons winning?

So let’s play this game to see when Michael Penix makes his Falcons regular season debut.

First, injuries are not taken into account. Predicting Kirk Cousins’s injury is not something I’d like to do, either. But realistically speaking, if the Falcons win the NFC South, I could see Penix suffering some burn in the last weeks of the season.

Atlanta’s five games prior to their bye week include matches against Carolina, Tampa Bay, and New Orleans. There’s a chance Michael Penix will play in the next few games if the Falcons win the division.
