News Now: Newcastle United makes an approach for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly.

Following the failure to sign Tosin Adarabioyo, Newcastle United will try to complete a deal for Bournemouth centre-back Lloyd Kelly this week.

Eddie Howe had been looking at both defenders on free transfers to reinforce his backline for next season, with Adarabioyo getting closer to a move to Chelsea over the weekend.

Kelly, who can play both left-back and centre-back, is said to have received an offer from Newcastle, and negotiations will resume early this week with the expectation of a deal being completed.

Kelly’s contract at the Vitality Stadium was about to expire, and Champions League clubs in England and Europe expressed interest. Newcastle, on the other hand, has made the first move with a bid and will seek to complete a trade that will create competition for Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, and Jamaal Lascelles. Dan Burn and Emil Krafth can also play at full-back.

Kelly is well-known to Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, who signed him for Bournemouth for £13 million from Bristol City in 2019. As a free transfer, he would be a good deal for meeting profitability and sustainability standards. As previously reported, Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron may be open to accepting suitable offers this summer.

Kelly spoke with Telegraph Sport earlier this season about growing up in foster care and encouraged potential parents to consider adopting children.

“I lived it but didn’t know the numbers and the scale of how big it was until I worked with the Bristol City Council and how difficult it was especially for siblings to stay together in the transition from family to foster care,” he stated.

“I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is contemplating about it; you would be shocked at how much of a great impact you can make on someone’s life. That complete support network is beneficial to the youngster.”

A compensation dispute has cast doubt on Vincent Kompany’s bid to hire Aaron Danks as his new back-room staff at Bayern Munich.

Kompany was named Bayern’s new head coach last Wednesday and is eager to bring Danks from Middlesbrough with him to the Bundesliga giants.

Danks previously worked with Kompany at Anderlecht and has extensive first-team coaching experience, including spells with England Under-21s and Aston Villa.

Middlesbrough, a Championship team, is asking compensation for the 43-year-old, and Bayern is unwilling to meet the request at this time.

Negotiations are scheduled to begin this week, although Middlesbrough is prepared to take a firm stance on Danks’ future.
