News Now: Browns running back Nick Chubb is progressing in treatment for a knee injury and intends to play in 2024.

BEREA, OHIO (AP) Nick Chubb has pushed through the most of the agony.

Speaking to reporters for the first time since his 2023 season ended in Week 2 with a gruesome knee injury on a carry near the goal line in Pittsburgh, Cleveland’s star running back said Wednesday that his recovery from surgery is going well and that he’s excited to return to the field for the Browns.

He just doesn’t know when that will be.

“I like where I am. “I’m where I need to be,” said Chubb, whose knee was blown out after being struck from the side by Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. “I would say that the biggest thing for me is getting better every day.”

The four-time Pro Bowler just began running at the team’s facilities to rehab his left knee, which he damaged in college at Georgia, and has been encouraged by his steady improvement.

The Browns adjusted Chubb’s deal during the offseason, indicating that they believe he will be able to contribute at some point this season. He recognized the team’s constant support.

“A blessing,” he replied. “They might have simply cut me dry and left me hanging, right? But they did an excellent job. I want to be here in Cleveland. They are aware of this, thus we arrived to a good conclusion.”

Chubb, who has run for 6,511 yards in 77 games since being chosen in 2018, admitted there were some gloomy days following his injury. He tries not to think about that time versus the Steelers.

“I’ve moved on. “It happened so fast,” he explained. “It was a foggy two weeks, so I don’t think about it too much. “I’m just moving forward.”

Chubb did not blame Fitzpatrick, who received some criticism for the low shot.

“I don’t think it’s a dirty hit at all,” Chubb explained. “I don’t blame him. “It’s part of the game.”

Browns’ Nick Chubb takes knee rehab ‘day by day,’ says hit by Minkah Fitzpatrick ‘part of the game’

Nick Chubb is attempting to see the good side of things, with patience and perspective.

The Cleveland Browns running back, who is attempting yet another comeback from a devastating knee injury, has no idea when he will return to the field. He still has a long way to go with his recuperation. However, Chubb expressed satisfaction with the progress he has made since his season-ending Week 2 injury last year.

“I’m getting better every day, taking it day by day, getting better,” Chubb told reporters on Wednesday. “Yeah, only right now, trying to gain strength.

“… I enjoy where I am now. I’d say I’m exactly where I should be. The most important thing for me is to improve each day.

The injury sidelined Chubb for the balance of the 2023 season. The Browns conceded as recently as late March that they didn’t know where Chubb would be physically in the coming months. Chubb stated that he had only recently been able to ratchet it up.

“I was down in September,” he explained. “I mean, I didn’t start moving well until quite recently. So now it feels fantastic to be able to move around.”
