News Now: Hints on Newcastle’s future as Arsenal considers invoking ………

Bruno Guimaraes says he is delighted at Newcastle, but admits the club’s financial position may throw a wrench in the works.

On Thursday, it was revealed that the Magpies are one of six Premier League clubs that may be compelled to sell in order to comply with the league’s Profitability and Sustainability guidelines. Guimaraes is undoubtedly the club’s most saleable asset following another successful season in which he scored 17 goals across all competitions.

Arsenal and Manchester City have both been connected with the Brazilian, as have a number of other European heavyweights, including Paris Saint-Germain. The 26-year-old’s current contract includes a release clause worth around £100 million, although it is only active until the end of June.

Speaking to Brazilian media, the midfielder stated that he is satisfied with his current club but cannot promise his long-term stay. “My future, to be honest, is in God’s hands.

“I have a contract with Newcastle, and I’m extremely happy. As I previously stated, I know how much they like me and what I’ve done for the club. In summary, I have a contract and am pleased.

“I’m not sure what will happen; we know everything about Financial Fair Play, but I can say that I’m thrilled. It’s definitely wonderful to be associated with large clubs; it shows that I’m doing well, but I’m not concerned; as I already stated, I’m content with the club.

“I am extremely happy, so let’s see what happens. I’m not in a hurry, I’m pleased, and it’s up to God; we’ll see what happens.”

Earlier this year, Newcastle chief executive Darren Eales indicated that significant deals were not out of the question if they wanted to boost their availability and thereby improve Eddie Howe’s team.

When asked if crown jewel players could be traded, Eales said: “It’s difficult to comment particularly about certain players, but I can say that if we’re going to achieve where we want to go, it’s sometimes important to trade your stars. Any decision we make will always be based on the club’s medium- to long-term benefit.

“Whether it’s because of the player’s contract duration, the offer is too good to pass up, or you need to reload in specific areas, trading that player may make sense. It sounds counterintuitive, yet part of the underlying system of PSR is that there is an incentive to trade your players if you want to reinvest.”

Arsenal, on the other hand, appear to be planning another major spending spree after falling short of winning the Premier League title. However, sporting director Edu has stressed that the Gunners would not rush into signing players and will only do so if they believe they can turn the dial.

“On my table, I have reports containing almost 180 pages about a player. It is quite detailed. Physical, technical, and mental profile – whether you have Premier League experience and the ability to adapt. It has everything.

“We analyze our shortcomings, where we can improve, and where we can invest, and then we look for this new name.” We’ve been talking what I’m going to do now since January. It is neither my nor Mikel’s decision. It’s from the entire bunch.”
