AUBURN, AL—Anthony Rogers, one of the country’s top running back prospects, left Montgomery to play at powerhouse IMG Academy, but he is returning home for his senior season and will play for the Carver Wolverines. Rogers is now committed to Alabama, but he is still considering his choices after receiving interest from other colleges such as Auburn.
Rogers returned to the Plains this week with his Carver teammates for the 7on7 camp, giving him the opportunity to learn what Auburn is all about while working with his new team. He stated it was an excellent point, and he appreciated what he saw from the Tigers.

Loachapoka, Alabama — Jabari Smith Jr. expects to be replaced in next year’s Auburn recruiting class.
Smith was and is the highest-rated signee in program history, although that could change in 2025, as Bruce Pearl and Auburn are closely connected with the nation’s top prospect, AJ Dybantsa.
College football: Five true freshmen quarterbacks most likely to play in 2024.
The class of 2024 was stocked with quarterbacks, and these excellent signal callers arrived on college campuses this offseason. Several of them stood out throughout spring practice, putting themselves in position to play as true freshmen next season. Cooper Petagna, national recruiting analyst, suggested five potential for early playing time on this week’s broadcast of 247Sports Live.
DJ Lagway, a five-star Florida commit, surpassed Nebraska’s Dylan Raiola as the top quarterback in the class of 2024 late in the process and will have the opportunity to play early in Gainesville next season. He piled up 5,561 yards of total offense and 74 total touchdowns as a senior at Willis (Texas) High School last season, and he shone during the Gators’ spring game, ending with 173 throwing yards and two scores.
Florida has quarterback Graham Mertz back after completing 72.9% of his passes for 2,903 yards, 20 touchdowns, and three interceptions in his debut season with the Gators in 2023. He’ll most likely start against Miami, but if he stumbles, Lagway will be ready to step in.

The following five true freshmen quarterbacks are most likely to play in 2024:
Demond Williams Jr., Washington
This offseason, Washington acquired Will Rogers, the SEC’s all-time completions leader, from Mississippi State via the transfer portal. He’s the anticipated starter in 2024, but that doesn’t mean Williams will sit on the bench as a freshman. The Huskies lost nearly every player from their two-deep last season and are beginning a rebuilding season under new head coach Judd Fisch. If Rogers’ losses start piling up, why not take a look at the future with Williams?
Petagna: “Washington only returns 33% of its output.” Even though this is a squad coming off a national championship, they will be nursing their wounds a little. It will be difficult for them to get into the postseason conversation. Williams has already pushed Will Rogers. He provides something extremely distinct. He is not a statue in your pocket. He’s a dynamic individual. He’s quite comfortable on the perimeter and on the move. He has a point guard mentality and a skill set that Jedd Fisch and his team are well acquainted with.
Perhaps expectations are not being reached after nine or ten weeks of the season. He allows Fisch to say, ‘Let’s invest in the future. Let’s give Williams some more run. This is the one who will lead us the rest of the way.”
Walker White, Auburn
Hugh Freeze had no trouble rotating quarterbacks last season, and Robbie Ashford, the second quarterback in that two-quarterback system, transferred out of the team this offseason. Payton Thorne is the starter, but Freeze and his staff have other options for getting White on the field as a rookie. The four-star, top-50 recruit has a large build and, at the very least, plenty of short-yardage and goal-line potential for next season.
Petagna: “He is a wild card. Auburn is in a somewhat comfortable position with Payton Thorne. They have three men who they like. Walker White is a guy who exudes physicality and potential. We saw him as a raw, developmental prospect. He has a professional competition with Will Levis. If Auburn can get Walker White on the field, Hugh Freeze will be very tempted.
